Petra and Atlantis,
We will all be the poorer if you guys leave.
whilst i have never quite understood whether petra and atlantis are one or multiple entities i recognise the value of their work and web of contacts.
i think it is fair to say that no-one has consistently contributed more solid gold intelligence to this site.
no one has reliably passed on more bomb shells and solid news as well as day to day minutiae.
Petra and Atlantis,

unbelievable.
okay actually it's very believable.
check out the latest video on jwdotorg:.
If a jw is stumbled because of a major change in doctrine, he is a weak, mentally diseased apostate.
When the gb changes a doctrine that was preached as truth to the world for decades in gods name, it was because they simply 'erred', however, they still expect unquestioning obedience.
There is a reason there is so much self righteous arrogance in the org. It starts at the top and flows down.
unbelievable.
okay actually it's very believable.
check out the latest video on jwdotorg:.
The video spends the first 7.5 mins quoting verses about Jesus being questioned and doubted by pharisees, setting up the premise that to question the GB is to question God.
It then goes on to point out a few glaring problems that have caused many to leave or question but assures us that its the individuals fault- never the GB.
A few interesting comments about the possibility of not having the normal JW experience in the future. Gives the impression that there is a possibility of downsizing, or trimming some fat. Probably meaningless but opens the door for change if they need it.
or..as i remember the title..circuit servants wives.
but then i left 40+ years ago.. any recollections of those females that led such an unnatural existence?.
those that i recall seemed such aloof creatures..
I seem to remember that they all had multiple eating disorders.
in a recent feel-good instagram post about the 2019 international convention, a jw remarked, "was it the last convention we will have?".
there is no doubt jw's feel they are truly special and that world events revolve around them directly.
there is also no doubt that whether we get a vaccine for covid or not, and at the moment, its looking very certain that we will, that the world will continue to spin and life will go on, regardless of the beliefs of the jw's.. once the pandemic is over i'm wondering if some jw's will realise that even though they lived through a notable period of time, life kept sailing on, and maybe they aren't that special after all?

latest news announcement is that there are two companies that have developed a vaccine for the covid virus which they say they will start being distributing to the public in a matter of weeks.. one comes from a company called moderna (94.5% effective) and the other is from pfizer (90% effective).
if all things go to plan you could see things return to normal once the majority of the general public is vaccinated by easter of next year.. yoo hoo .
One thing I have hated about the whole pandemic is how fast some people want to pigeon hole others for their opinions. Just because you think lockdowns, or a stricter approach to control covid has merit, doesnt automatically mean you are a tree hugging, vegan, gender-fluid liberal, who wants to see the end of capitalism. Thats insane. Also, letting it run wild through communities and take out the weak is reckless, and could easily backfire should the virus mutate into something nastier.
Sweden is not doing well by taking the latter approach. The only way to slow the virus is to restrict its transfer and that means restricting movement and interaction of the population. Its not rocket science. Humans have used quarantine for centuries.
in a recent conversation with my dad, i asked how he was enjoying the zoom meetings.
he lives in a rural part of australia, virtually untouched by covid-19, in fact, the state he lives in has a limit on religious gatherings of 300, which could easily handle the average attendance of congregation meetings.
so i asked why don't they resume meetings as usual?.
Hi p4xlm, nice bot account name.
The link you posted makes you sound a lot like my dad.
The message is- make sure that you never think about anything, don't question the governing body, even when the advice seems to not make sense.
To further drive home the importance of blind obedience to an organisation that has a track record of predicted failures, the daily text gives the account of the fictional character Joshua.
it was stated many years ago in answer to how did the flood cover the top of all the mountains on earth in noah`s day.?.
mount everest ?.
and it was explained away by saying that the mountains before the flood were a lot smaller / lower than the mountains that exist today.. so there was no problem .. when the deluge began with so much volume of water now covering the earth ( water being heavy ) pushed down into the weakest parts of the earth and raised up in other parts of the earth to where we now have higher mountains than existed before the flood of noah`s day.. in other words mount everest didn`t exist at its present height before the flood and neither did any other high mountain that exists today ,the topography all changed with the noachian flood.
If water covered the entire globe, wouldn't there be equal pressure everywhere? If there was, this wouldn't allow any one part of the earth to get pushed up to insane heights.
I remember thinking how ludicrous this sounded as a teenager when we studied this at the meetings.

In his typically condescending, self-righteous way, he told me that 'The Brothers' will let them know when they can once again hold normal meetings and go door to door.
The way I see it, on one side of the argument you have a large organisation that has a governing body, based the U.S, that sets the rules. Maybe its far less complicated to have a blanket rule for all congregations worldwide during the pandemic and continue online for now. This makes sense but also leaves me a little confused as to why they wouldnt want to get back to preaching the urgent good news of the kingdom as soon possible, in areas where it can be carried out safely.
The other side of the argument, which is wild speculation, is perhaps they really are using this as a stepping stone to liquidate kingdom halls in the future, when the time is right. This idea has been discussed here already and I guess time will tell, once there is a vaccine and things get back to normal.
The main reason I could imagine them selling off, apart from the injection of cash, is that it puts the physical buildings one more step out of the reach of lawsuits, should some jw's decide they are entitled to reimbursement and pursue the org legally.
this topics get a great deal of discussion here.
what i find interesting is even some of my pimi family is embracing the reality that all is not well with jw.org and that many current jws are just going through the motions due to not having a good way out of the org.
wondering what could realistically lead to the collapse of jw.org in the not distant future?
Anyone watched Deutschland 89?
Great series on Stan covering the years from 83-89 and the collapse of the Berlin wall.
The way East Germans reacted was probably indicative of how jws would react if the org collapsed.
Some were ecstatic they were free, some were scared or nervous because they didn't have a script for what came next in their lives. Some struggled with the idea of freedom and others tried their best to pretend it wasn't happening and did what they could to keep communism going.
So, pretty much a spectrum of people with true believers at one end, to people that were glad it was over at the other.
